Investing in our communities

Horizon Milling has a long-standing commitment to the people and communities where we operate. In each of our locations, we strive to be a good corporate citizen, helping to build strong partnerships with local organizations in ways that contribute to the vitality of communities where we live and work.

Contributing to the safety of our workers

We embrace safety as a way of doing business.

  • Our safety index surpasses the flour milling industry average by 50 percent.
  • The industry association, IAOM, recognized 20 plants for outstanding safety performance in 2005.
  • We continually strive to improve our safety index by implementing new safety behavior initiatives, coupled with excellent auditing and compliance activities.
  • Two of our plants have celebrated more than 1 million hours with no lost-time accidents, and our Stockton plant has not had a lost-time accident since it began operation in 1991.

Contributing to the health of our environment

Our mills work locally with community groups to promote a variety of environmental programs.

  • Our Saginaw, Texas, staff has partnered with the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw School district for nine years to teach students about water quality and conservation. The program has more than 8000 children so far.
  • A "Water Matters" Mini Grant from Horizon Milling and Cargill provided funding for staff from the Science Museum of Minnesota to lead a program about water for students at Bluff View Elementary School in Lake City, Minnesota.
  • Horizon Milling, Lake City, Minnesota, recently provided grant money to fund a local environmental learning program.

Committed to strengthening our neighborhoods

Horizon Milling continues to support local schools and organizations through contributions and volunteer efforts including the United Way, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, local fire/rescue groups, museums, parks and more:
